Brownie Guides from the Argyll area found it difficult to attend any of the National celebrations being held this year because of the distances to travel, so the youngsters threw a party of their own on the Isle of Mull to mark the special anniversary.

The girls from 22 Brownie units in Argyll took part in a range of exciting activities, including working with drumming group ‘Drumfun’ who had everyone drumming together as a truly memorable finale to the day.  The event had a Birthday Star Quest theme and it encouraged the girls to swap contact details, cementing friendships for years to come.

Jackie Parker, Outdoor Activities Adviser for Argyll Girl Guides, said: This was an absolutely fabulous day and all the brownies from all over Argyll gained such a lot out of their get together celebrations.  Friendships have been formed and a common bond achieved between groups.  We sincerely thank our main sponsors Scottish Seafarms, and also the Lions Club, Mull Eagle Watch, TSL and West Highland Housing Association for their amazing support and financial help.

The Brownie Guides provide regular activities for girls aged 7-10 years old in their local communities.  They often stay with guiding, moving up to becoming leaders themselves.  Special events let the Brownies meet girls from other areas and this helps strengthen a sense of local and community identity.

Scottish Sea Farms sponsored the day and provided some special birthday cake and sweet treats for the girls.

Scottish Sea Farms said: “We did not want the girls to miss out on this special birthday and we were happy that a cash grant from Heart of The Community has made the party possible.”
