Our Vision is to provide a warm & safe environment as a meeting place for the youth & Community of Mull & Iona. The new Tobermory Scout and Guide Hall is Our Visionary project creating a safe haven for the youth of tomorrow and a long lasting legacy for the future of a remote Island Community.
We hope to achieve this by creating not just a hall, but an innovative design and demonstration model for a more sustainable Mull and Iona; using environmental solutions & passive heating to reduce the effects of climate change.
Through this development,we hope to reduce the impact of rural isolation within our community, inspire people within the community to be more active and take the first steps in tackling climate change; a tall order but we are up for the challenge!
Our ethos supports the Scottish Governments Vision for Children, the curriculum for excellence & getting it right for every child. “All children in Scotland should be confident individuals, effective contributors, successful learners and responsible citizens. All Scotland’s children need to feel safe, be nurtured, healthy, achieving, active, feel included, respected and responsible for their actions.” We believe Our Vision will allow us to achieve several of the outcomes of this vision.
We hope to expose children of varying backgrounds, ages, disorders and social deprivation to new activities & opportunities which are not readily available to them at school and with living on a remote island.
Activities such as camping, tai jitsu, boxercise, country dancing, aerobics, craft workshops to name a few, will enable children to develop new life skills, improve their self confidence and self esteem and most importantly learn how to interact with their peers in the community.
The chosen location of our new hall is alongside a sheltered housing complex, which is in full support of our objectives. We believe our choice of location can only benefit our application as it will encourage social cohesion and help bridge the gap between generations of young and old within our isolated community.
