Our programme

P1040253On our 1st year celebrations we invited parents and friends to an open evening. The cubs put on displays of their work and showed how to make tracking signs and their meanings, also knots, the recovery position, and how to read map signs. We had cake and juice to finish the evening off.

We had help with the Athletics badge from one of the scout leaders (Andy) which was very much appreciated.

For part of the home help badge the boys all made their own pizza’s with a variety of toppings and we finished off with ice-cream from the ice-cream van.

Before our summer break we had a nature walk identifying trees and plants with the cubs deciding if they were native to Mull or not and talking about plants you can find together i.e. Nettles and dock leaves. We also did bark and leaf rubbings and laid trails for each six to follow.

On Friday 5th September we resumed after our summer break and welcomed 4 new boys to our pack. The evenings theme was working together in various activities with the sixers helping the new cubs settle in.

We are currently working on the Information Technology 1 and the Global Challenge badges.

The cubs have also decided that they would like to support ‘The Back Pack Project’ part of the Mary’s Meals campaign.

This Friday (3rd) the cubs met at the Marine centre:

We run two sessions at the moment, our Marine Lab entitled ‘adapted to life’ is designed to be a hands-on session looking at the adaptations of the creatures we have in our catch and release tank, with microscopes, time lapse footage and lab demonstrations. Our other Marine Lab is called ‘Passionate about plankton’ this runs in a similar way, being hands-on and looking at the microscopic creatures in the sea, with an introductory presentation and film show included.

Having been a scout leader myself I would recommend ‘adapted to life’ for Cubs, this is by far the most popular and will keep their attention as there is lots of short activities to do.

We restart our meetings on Friday 31st with a Halloween themed evening.
